1 Malaysia Malls Abroad. Seriously? Malaysia’s very own “Daiso”?
I always Love Sundays. Good Days with Good Rests and with the Good newspapers. Well not until i read 1Malaysia Malls Abroad? Wow the first think i thought was another 1 Malaysia Brand? I don’t know. I’m not an economist to analyze about products or branding of Malaysian item or you name it all. But here’s the attachment from TheStar.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Government is in talks with investors and developers who are interested in setting up 1Malaysia malls in countries like Vietnam and China. Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a plot of land had been identified for such a mall in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. “Both Vietnam and China will most likely be the first two countries where the 1Malaysia malls will be opened,” he told reporters after launching the Buy Malaysian Products Exposition here yesterday. He said other countries like India and Iran had also expressed interest in setting up such malls. The setting up of 1Malaysia malls, one of the entry point projects under the retail National Key Economic Area, would be a private sector initiative.Ismail Sabri said 50% of the products sold in these malls would be Malaysian-made. He said many Malaysian companies were exporting their products but they were scattered all over. “These malls will allow all of them to sell their products under one roof,” he said. Ismail Sabri had earlier read out the speech of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who urged Malaysians to emulate the patriotic spirit of the Japanese and South Koreans. “They are always loyal and proud of their products. We should also have a positive perception of our products, which are of similar quality if not better,” he said.
I never mean to be skeptical of anything the Government is going to do. But the first impression came in was Malaysia’s Daiso? Just so if you don’t know what i’m talking about, Here. It’s basically about a well known All Japanese Product store with more than 3000 outlets in the world today. They use Walmart’s logistic strategy and thus helping on their massive item shippings. A few critics could be made already at this simple news.
Firstly he did mention that this is one of the entry point under the retail NKEA, be a private initiative. Don’t mind me not studying finish ETP GTP yet but how does this going to be a private initiative when someone is carrying the government propaganda?
Secondly, 1Malaysia Malls abroad? Why not here first? Frankly i don’t even realize what is or not buatan Malaysia. Nestle isn’t a malaysia company, it’s neither a malaysia brand? yes i have low knowledge of it because we don’t even have a retail with all made in Malaysia items in here at our backyards. By to this date even as how proud i am to buy Malaysian products, i don’t really know where they are.
And if you are urging Malaysians to emulate the patriotic spirit of Japanese and South Koreans, it’s not about us but really they did their best in branding their products worldwide, be it Daiso, or entertainment theme or anything, besides they own quite a big part of the world’s manufacturing sector. Even our own local manufacturing can provide sufficient entries to all Malaysia do we?
And the true paradox is that, you are saying 1 Malaysia Malls and then you mention only 50% products would be Malaysian items. Doesn’t that beat the purpose? I don’t know what he really meant but i am looking forward for next few days news as expecting feedbacks.
Truth is many of us today, Proud Malaysians have been working on this and there are many successful stories overseas i bet. Be it any retail or even Giant. But yea, this takes time and it can’t be pushed. The Americans are well known for their technology because of innovative leadership, while the japanese discovers things as it’s part of their culture. We really have to stop copying China brands or third parties hardware if we are saying proud local silicon valley products. I don’t know. But this is certainly not the approach. Here goes the Video:

Is that how AEON spreads it Japanese range of products via Jusco?
These people are just ‘blowing water’. There is no sense in what they are saying. Seriously. As with everything 1Malaysia, it is doomed right from the start because of the wrong mindset that these top dogs have.
About to blog something more positive =D hehee
