So it is the People Uprising Rally. I only went to the previous Bersih 3.0 gathering at Penang, but this rally isn’t only about clean and fair elections, in fact it was marched from 8 gathering spots from with 8 different causes, namely the student group with Student Solidarity Activist Malaysia SMM, Socialist Party of Malaysia, NGO of National Felda Settlers Association and also Royalty Recovery Coalition on the issue of Oil and Gas landing rights to Kelantan and Terengganu, Save Jalan Sultan and Heritage Village group, People’s Alliance Women, Himpunan Hijau Group, Solidarity Youth Coordinator Malaysia and many more. As the rally title says, the uprising rally.

 I was just there from 12pm onwards, while i know there are a lot of people who were there since the previous night to monitor situation or preparations. Anyways so yes it was safe, though i was expecting plots to happen (ahh that’s why i brought my tele lens) but well most of the pictures are taken with my new UWA lens. I would say it’s definitely 100k people, considering there are still 25k+ outside lingering around with the mini carnival atmosphere. And hey, who says the rally causes economy loss, so many people selling food and stuffs la!
So yes the story of the day is again, made up of PEOPLE. From anywhere, any cause, any age, any race and anything. I urge myself to come for this rally not because of supporting PKR or whatsoever, i believe both parties have their own achievements and flaws, but am here to understand the society of Malaysia, or to experience what is it like to be with all the other who wears the same shoe like you in hope for the many optimistic future of this nation despite some have expressed their regrets and leaving the country. I am here to know what the opposition and NGO leaders have to deliver, in fact i have been to number of occasions of BN events and also DAP talks
Nevertheless it does feel good to finally see the both sides physically and hear what they have to say and happily deciding for yourself whom to trust to rather of what the media has to decide for you. It is my to surprise too, i thought i have known quite a lot from the reading around but it shocks you even more when there are so many other things happening in other states such as the Felda with the falling price of FGVH and Oil and Gas landing rights too. Of course glad to meet Anwar, GuanEng, Ambiga, Abdul Hadi, Wong Teck, and all in one occasion together.

And yes the stage was very far from my sight, taken with my 300mm zoomed distance. Yes thats Guan Eng and the others behind him.

And yes of course it was very hot and surely everyone did sun burnt.

And definitely it is a sea of yellow and green, and some red.
But i really admire how Himpunan Hijau gain to grow its number of supporters to be as huge as Bersih. If there are doubts about Malaysia’s Grass Root leadership, Bersih and Himpunan Hijau are already the testimony for many. And hopefully even more from other states as the countdown to GE 13 begins. Looking forward for more Rallies and actually, thinking about it, it is the part where i could remember everyone’s optimistic smile during today that caught me into this realm, like, this is it, it’s where Malaysians marching because they know they can make the change, it’s where they want to send their message across, while some can say it is a waste of time. i think too them, and me, this is what happens when things you read move you into a physical state of action.

But really, it doesn’t feel like a competition at all, that’s what i love the most. Rather, to see it as a platform to build up the youth capacity as a leadership pipeline for environmental issue. Though this program span is long, from July all the way till December, but i think it’s really all about achieving the sustainability of the program itself. So yes like i said, everyone is a winner, and i could really wish all these 20 would have gone through the training in Japan, so far it’s the best trip to date to offer to any youths, NOT travelling,  but people and skills development.

Credits to Steph for pic. Thanks to all of you who came back and some others who are busy or far away. If there’s one thing i hope is that this isn’t the last but the opening for more possibilities. People ask me “So what do i get from Denso as the ‘winner’ for the best project?’ I would say, support. And that means a lot.

I think what i would love as the prize as is to come back to DYEA 2013 program to help as an alumni, or facilitator, or whatever it could be. I find that serving as a recognition or award, i think simply that really means a lot to me because i want to do as much as i could to move things forward.

People development, is always the key ingredient, to many things, and it motivates me a lot too. I would like to spread the self empowerment, because i believe a better community of youths doing their very best for all kind of issues or passions all starts with a person. And thanks DYEA for letting this to happen.

I think i am amazed that the fact that i wouldn’t remember anything about mobile phones or work or any 3g coverage once we left the jetty, kinda only realize about that when we reach back the jetty after the 5 days. Too much good stuffs, good stories, good people to mingle around with for the 5 days, and owh yea good food too. Didn’t i mention that food is plenty? If you are looking at this pic on the 21/12, most likely you think that we were escaping from some the 2012 apocalypse. (Yes actually indeed we could with the amount of excess food we had! hah!) 

Though as much as one of my friend told me that it’s not really ‘sustainable’ to have this huge amount of logistics, but well neither that we want to deplete their fishery food supply too. But yes again, it is always wonderful to be back to nature, to feed the mosquitoes, to just roll in your tents and knowing that you are sleeping along the patches of grass in the very heart of a protected rain forest and waking up in the next morning with this sight.

I think one thing that really changed me after the trip is the urge to get back to nature more frequent.. well somehow just being away from everything including coverage for weeks. And perhaps time to really use the tent and parang and tonnes of other survival equipments i have in my room where i haven’t really use it.  Well the fact about this Epic experience i really enjoyed pretty much is again about People. People that can come together for 3 days of never ending build, rain or shine. People from a wide range of age group and all kind of professions and personality, that could enjoy being together without much judging from what we wear and what we have. And yes i didn’t know much about screws until i came to this build.

Here’s how the process is:And yes i mentioned about Good Food, apparently anything simple can be really tasty,well thinking about being in the wild with burgers, or even pretty many creative dishes, thanks to the 3 cooks  And here’s the complete build. 2 Houses, each with 3 rooms, a kitchen and a living room. Simple, i believe the design is optimized for construction speed, the steel frames are alraedy prefabs, couldn’t imagine if we need to weld everything on the day itself, will take 5 days to complete then. Even the site is clear off before we reach, and same goes to the logistic of materials, thanks to the ahead planning from Epic Home.And here’s the 40 of us =) At first when i sign up for Epic home i was expecting some emphasize on ‘sustainable’ design etc etc, but i am glad that i did not, maybe i was thinking too much from my career perspective, but i was glad that ultimately it shows what this social enterprise aims for, it is about the people and empowerment. For more, feel free to visit my facebook album HERE. Earlier on i post about DYEA Local Program, which was the program before the international phase. 3 people were chosen to proceed to Global Program, and as usual, i joined the program with my baby project MESYM.COM in mind. There’s certainly more than words to describe what i have learnt in DYEA, my personal opinion would be, it’s the best environmental issue facilitating program anyone could find so far. I am saying from the point of view of being actively involved in the youth programs of environmental issues for the past 2 years, having gone through some international platforms/programs, DYEA offers you a truly diligent platform of training you, thanks to the 2 major factors i would say, facilitators and also the location, Japan, which has much more to offer, nothing major about technology really, but people and community.

I wouldn’t describe much about what the program is about, as i hope the video below can give you a picture what we did. I think the best way to describe it is that we manage to understand some aspects of Japan in which even Japanese in the Urban context doesn’t even know about, the local traditional food, the issues.. and the ancient wisdoms.

But as i have shared in the wrapping up session, i wish that other participants could have taken my place, or in fact, anyone who is as passionate as i am could have just be here for the 10 days to go through the program as well. I used to word “RELEARN” to describe on my 10days journey, we learn many things in this life, but we need to relearn why, why are we doing this. In this program i have indirectly ignited the answers for myself. In any causes or any passions one does, there’s always a checkpoint you will need to align back again if this is the life you really want about.

3 years of university education. All done, so fast, as if like i have not even entered university. I could still remember back my college year vividly and all its experience, just like yesterday, but i am done with university! I thought convocation is an anti climax, particularly for me who has been already working a month. But so now it’s official, it’s like a seal off that you are official with university experience, as much as you could continue with masters and still being in university, experience will never be so fast moving, diversified like these 3 years.

I appreciate a lot on whatever i have learnt in the 3 years as i emphasize on university experience a lot and i urge that to many of my friends too as it’s one of the most important growth curve.  But since now it’s official over, i shall continue to look forward and put the next checkpoint by the time i reach 25years old. 3 years to mark some stepping stones in my life. Waste no time !
